Hamza El Din
Description:
A vinyl reissue of the debut album recorded in 1964 by history's most famous oud player, Hamza El Din. Playing oud and tar, his gentle voice and original compositions combine the subtlety of Arabic music with the indigenous music of his native Nubia. He has single-handedly created a new music that is a fusion of Nubian and Arabic, but one that draws on the traditions of both and incorporates the knowledge he gained from his studies at Western conservatories. He has performed with everyone from Bob Dylan, Joan Baez, and the Grateful Dead to the Kronos Quartet. He is credited with popularizing the oud instrument in the West, along with Ravi Shankar on the sitar.
