Description:
The young violinist Anna Urpina, who says she wants to "advocate out-of-the-box programs for classical concerts," presents this album, which follows the theme of alternating Baroque and contemporary works and performing them on instruments appropriate to each period. The works by 17th- and 18th-century composers such as Biber, Corelli, and Telemann not only use period technique, but are also tuned at a lower pitch (415 Hz). They are rich in improvisational ornamentation. The two world premiere recordings of contemporary works by Webern and Pärt, as well as works by contemporary Spanish composers J.L. Turina and Guiche, are performed with sharp interpretation and refined tone, successfully contrasting the characteristics of the two periods. Naxos Japan
