The third collection of Beethoven's Music for the Theatre by Capella Aquileia, led by Markus Bosch. The music on this recording is the incidental music for the play "Egmont," composed in 1809 at the request of Josef Hartl, manager of the Vienna Court Theater, for Goethe's play of the same name, which is attached to a story about Count Egmont (Efmont), a real 16th century Dutch military officer, and is a work that reflects Beethoven's The music, which is both a political concern and a tribute to Goethe, has been performed in its entirety more and more often in recent years. The entire work consists of nine songs, including an overture and soprano arias, and the play is told by a narrator. The scripts are usually by Goethe's friend Friedrich Mossengele and Beethoven's friend Franz Grillparzer, but in this recording the contemporary playwright Stefan Nies has freely added lines, deepening the story. The album also includes three other overtures and "Wellington's Victory," also known as the "War Symphony. These realistic performances are presented in a high-quality SACD hybrid disc. Naxos Japan
