18th-century Italian mecca arrow decorated with a baroque pearl on a polished calcite base. The arrow was once used as part of a decorative motif in an artistic depiction in a historic Italian church. The piece shows the tail of the arrow which signifies that it was show as piercing something or someone. It could have been part of a depiction of Saint Sebastian. He is ordinarily depicted being pierced by arrows and was the patron saint of archers.
It is hand-carved and hand-painted with mecca gold paint. It is mounted on the polished calcite base and adorned with a natural-forming baroque pearl. The piece has been combined with the polished calcite and baroque pearl to create a historically significant yet contemporary work of old and new.
