A fine quality steel side-saddle safety stirrup. The steel is tarnished in places

The stirrup has a swinging inner arch and two part tread that separates to release the foot in the event of a fall so that the rider cannot be dragged.

The inner arch is covered in leather. The tread is solid, curved at its front edge and stamped "Wickede Wien"  and "6" on the underside.

 If fitted the wrong way round the escape mechanism would not work.
The underside of the back part of the footplate or tread is stamped "6"
